How to Measure Your Dog & Size Guide

how to measure

Use a measuring tape (rulers wont give you an accurate measurement). Be sure to get the measurements right, so your dogs coat will fit perfectly. If its the first time you are measuring your dog you might want to double check your measurements to ensure they are accurate.

BACK LENGTH
length of back from the bottom of the neck between the shoulder blades along the spine to the base of tail

NECK
Around the widest part Allow enough room so it isn't too tight

CHEST
Deepest part of chest allowing space for 3 fingers under the tape to allow the dog sufficient reach and movement. If your dog has a lot of hair please allow for this

WAIST
In front of hind legs no need for extra allowance as coats are open from here

FRONT LEG
(Please note this is not on diagram)
Height from spine at highest point of wither, down side of shoulder, straight down to the length you require it to finish

FRONT LEG FROM UNDER ARM PIT
Measure from arm pit to length required please don't measure to bottom as this will be too long

BACK LEG
(Please note this is not on diagram)
height from spine of highest point of loin straight down to the length you require it to finish
CHEST LENGTH
Start between the front legs to where the stomach sinks in and becomes narrower or up to privates in a male

CHEST FRONT BETWEEN THE LEGS
(Please note this is not on diagram)

standing in front of the dog, width of chest from between inside of right leg to inside of left leg. This will ensure there is enough movement for the dog

ANKLE
right around to desired width
( for elasticated and fleece cuffs only)
